A LITTLE RAIN CAN'T STOP US!
 
July 17th 2015 was our 8th Annual Bill Georgas Memorial Golf Day.  A little rain did not slow things down at all and a great day of fun, food, and golf was enjoyed by everyone.  This years Golf Day was a great success.  We raised over $15,000.00.   Thank you to everyone that participated.  A big thank you also to our sponsors and golf supporters. BILL GEORGAS MEMORIAL GOLF DAY
Eighth Annual
 
 
July 17, 2015
 
Bill Georgas was a member of our Rotary Club for over 60 years. He was a sportsman, musician, a friend to all and a proud Rotarian. Bill was a champion of children’s charities. Through Skiarama, Bill raised tens of thousands of dollars for Easter Seals. He always had time to teach a child how to ski or roller blade. He was a constant supporter of our camp. We hope this event is a fitting tribute and a way of continuing the work that was so important to Bill.
 
What Is Rotary
 
Rotary International currently comprises 1.2 million members with 32,000 clubs in over 200 countries. Rotary was established in 1905 in Chicago and is recognized as the world’s first service club. Today, the Rotary wheel is second only to the Red Cross as the world’s most recognized organization symbol.
 
Our Rotary Club
 
The Rotary Club of Owen Sound was established in 1921. Since that time we have been serving this community and the world community through a variety projects. Just a few of our more recent and ongoing activities include
  • Polio Plus Program to eradicate polio worldwide in conjunction with Rotary international, the World Health Organization, UNICEF, and the Centre for Disease Control
  • Camp Presqu’ile, north of Owen Sound is our summer camp for kids. For 90 years and with the assistance of the YMCA, we have been providing children of all walks of life with an opportunity to go to summer camp
  • $75,000 contribution to Regional Recreation Centre
  • Disaster relief through the Shelter Box Program which supplies shelter and essentials for survival
  • Youth exchange program and ambassadorial scholarships. Rotary is the largest provider of International Scholarships
  • Humanitarian relief such as clean drinking water in schools and villages in Cameroon
  • Adopt a highway program
  • Built a schoolyard and provided school supplies for a school in Cabarete, Dominican Republic
  • Children’s Literacy Speakers program for local library
  • Assist with collection and donation of used eyewear for use in third world countries
To support our work, we raise funds through events like the Attack Challenge during the hockey season, Volleyball tournament in March, Wings and Wheels each July, our annual Poker Night in October, our weekly meetings, today’s golf day and through the generous donation from the numerous friends of Rotary.

Whether it’s building a school in the Dominican Republic or a recreation centre at home, eradicating polio or sending kids to camp, we are proud to be a part of what Rotary has accomplished.
